Crossover Trial

A study where participants receive both the treatment and placebo in sequence.

In a crossover trial, each participant serves as their own control by receiving both the active supplement and placebo in separate periods, with a washout period in between. This design reduces inter-individual variability and requires fewer participants than parallel-arm trials. Crossover designs are particularly useful for supplements with short-term effects and reversible outcomes, but are less suitable for conditions where the intervention may have lasting effects that persist through the washout period.
