Health Conditions
Joint Pain
Discomfort, aching, or soreness in any joint of the body.
Joint pain (arthralgia) can result from osteoarthritis (cartilage degeneration), rheumatoid arthritis (autoimmune), gout (uric acid crystallization), or injury. Chronic joint inflammation involves pro-inflammatory cytokines, matrix metalloproteinases, and oxidative stress that degrade cartilage. Supplements with evidence for joint health include glucosamine and chondroitin (mixed evidence for osteoarthritis), omega-3 fatty acids (anti-inflammatory), curcumin (NF-κB inhibition), collagen peptides (type II collagen), and vitamin D (bone and joint health). SAMe (S-adenosylmethionine) has shown efficacy comparable to NSAIDs in some osteoarthritis trials.
