About

The three branched-chain amino acids — leucine, isoleucine, and valine — that play a key role in muscle protein synthesis and lean mass preservation during caloric restriction. Systematic reviews suggest BCAAs may be most beneficial when total protein intake is suboptimal.

How It Works

Leucine directly activates mTOR signaling to stimulate muscle protein synthesis, preserving lean mass during caloric restriction. Isoleucine enhances glucose uptake in muscle tissue independently of insulin. BCAAs compete with tryptophan for blood-brain barrier transport, potentially reducing central fatigue during exercise. Lean mass preservation maintains basal metabolic rate during weight loss.
